Football season is fast approaching, the time of year full of tailgating, beautiful fall afternoons and weekends on the couch watching games. For coaching families, it's a time where dad heads back to the crazy grind that is "season", we start making plans for hosting family and friends for games and we rekindle (or build new) friendships with other staff wives and families.
The wives of Army's football staff are no exception. They kicked off this season in one of the most fun, fit ways I can think of...a mud run! Mud runs are "all the rage" these days, and I bet if you do some searching you can find one happening in your area sometime this fall. They can be 3+ miles long, some are women only, and all have fun, challenging obstacles to cross while getting plenty dirty!
Earlier this month, 5 of Army's football wives (including the head coaches wife!) enlisted for the Mudman X Run in New Windsor, NY. They created their own team (The Dirty Gridiron Girls!), made some adorable team shirts and stuck together (no girl left behind!) for the ultimate team building workout! It was a first for each of the women, and along with it came excitement and nerves! They loved how it challenged them mentally AND physically while helping them work together as a team.
"For our first mud run...we OWNED that race, it didn't own us!"
One of their favorite obstacles was this giant "slip-n-slide"! They also shared that the biggest challenge was 7 consecutive obstacles towards the end of the 3 mile run including jumping over flames and crossing 10 ft high monkey bars. Talk about an endurance and mental challenge!
These awesome football wives had a blast while completing their first ever mud run, and they all said they would love to do it again, but hope to be a little better prepared next time by doing some training! I've created a circuit workout below that would be a perfect way to get prepared for YOUR next mud run!
Thanks Army Football Wives for sharing your story, pictures (credit: BeBe Seward) and inspiration!
If you're thinking of doing a mud run, be sure to try this circuit as a part of your "pre-season-training"!!
how about you?
Have you ever competed in a mud run?
Coaches wives...what's the coolest thing you've done together as a staff?
