It's coming...just one short week from TODAY. Thanksgiving is my FAVORITE holiday. To me, it holds everything a holiday should: gratefulness, family, food and relaxation. There isn't the craziness and materialness of Christmas, and we don't have to eat ham like on Easter. Do you eat ham on Easter? Ugh. I digress.
I just love Thanksgiving. If I had to name my favorite meal of the whole year it would be a traditional (albeit gluten free) Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey and sweet potatoes and stuffing and pie. Oh, how I love pie. What can I say? I'm a food girl - a fat kid at heart. If you know me or have been reading my posts, you probably already know that I don't eat 100% healthy food 100% of the time. I live and promote a life of balance. I'll work out hard and make healthy meals, but I also won't beat myself up about enjoying an extra glass of wine or a piece of pie.
For me, Thanksgiving isn't a day for balance. It just isn't. There are posts all over the internet about how to make Thanksgiving healthier, and I definitely incorporate some of the tips. I only eat my most favorite foods, we don't served processed junk, and I don't spoil my dinner by drinking all day beforehand. But that's just mostly because all I care about is pie.
So today, instead of giving you lists of ways to make Thanksgiving healthier, I'm going to share the ONE and ONLY Thanksgiving Rule that I follow each year.
~ Get Sweaty before you Get Stuffed ~
I've done Turkey Trots (so so fun), gone trail running and even taught a Turkey Day boot camp at 6am. I don't care if it's a walk around the block. Start the day with family and a little exercise and then enjoy go and the rest of the day.
Eat your favorite food.
Go back for seconds if you want.
Turkey Day doesn't have to be a springboard for an unhealthy holiday season. It can be one super fantastic day full of being THANKFUL for pie (and your family and friends and health...) Tomorrow you can hit the gym, drink a pumpkin pie smoothie and get back on track. But don't worry about that right now.
what about you?
Do you follow any Thanksgiving rules?
