I mentioned a bit ago that my running motivation hasn't been what I hoped it would be so far this year. In fact, my workout motivation in general was pretty lame in January (so much for New Year's inspiration!). It seems like all I've been posting about is how I'm not on top of my game lately, but I guess we can't all be on our game all the time...even us personal trainers!
In case you didn't know, pregnancy does a number on you. Not only your body, but your mindset too! I spent 9 months being really conservative, gradually slowing down with a goal to simply keep moving each day. Then, the first 6 months post-partum I continued with my goal to "just move" each day. I have been loving daily walks, I've enjoyed getting back into running, yoga and lifting, and I've even lost my baby weight! Score! All of that is great, but I haven't managed to really push myself much yet. Sometimes I feel like I've forgotten how!?
Lately, I was catching myself skimping on my workouts, shortening my runs and feeling sore and sluggish. One of my problems was that I was never taking days off. I kept feeling like each workout didn't really count since it was kind of half assed...so I kept doing another half assed workout the next day. No more half ass-ing for me my friends.
So last weekend I took it upon myself to take a seat, look at my goals, and put together a reasonable workout schedule. I know I work best when I have a plan...and I've waited too long. So I busted out my fun colored pens and got it all planned out.
Here's the gist: 5 weeks of workouts, 5 days a week. It's a countdown until my trip to Hawaii. (woohoo!) With the two set rest days, I'm hoping it will motivate me to really push myself on the 5 workout days. Quality over quantity is really what I'm going for. With my off days I'm hoping my body will have more recovery time and I will ward off any injuries that I seem so prone to get.
With this schedule I hope to increase my weekly running mileage and get back up to running 6 miles for my long run, as well as build more strength. My dad has a fun (aka crazy intense) trail run planned for our Hawaii trip so I've gotta be ready. Really I'm just hoping not to die.
So that's it! I'm off and running! Literally! It's so nice to open my planner each day and know what I need to do, instead of doing something random that I "probably should" do. I'm a little over 1 week in and it's been going great so far! How has it taken me this long I realize this is what I need?
how about you?
Are you following a specific workout plan?
