I've got something to share today that I am
I LOVE Instagram and how positive and motivating of a space it is for me. I make a real conscious effort to only follow accounts that make me happy and feel inspired.
So this next project is just about that. Sharing, connecting and inspiring throughout Instagram and the healthy living community. I have connected with so many amazing FIT MOMS in real life and on Instagram...and this challenge is for ALL OF YOU!
I have partnered up with my friend and fellow fit mama Hollie from Hollie Nicholson Fitness to co-host a 2 week Instagram photo challenge! #MomsWithMomentum I love photo-a-day challenges because we all can use a little insta-inspiration sometimes! We also have some AMAZING sponsors like Momentum Jewelry and Her Tribe Athletics which only means one thing: super sweet prizes!
Here's how it works.
Save this photo to your phone so you have easy reference to it throughout the challenge.
Repost it on Instagram to tell everyone what you're doing and to encourage them to join you! The more the merrier!
Then, each day of the challenge (Oct. 1-14), post a picture based on that day's prompt. You can interpret them however you like! Don't overthink it, just have FUN!
To be sure that we see your post and to be entered to win prizes throughout the challenge, be sure to hashtag #MomsWithMomentum on each photo and tag each of the co-hosts and sponsors. Winners will be notified and announced throughout the challenge,
I'll be sharing my favorite posts at the end of each week too!
Our sponsors are 2 amazing women owned companies that both have integrated fitness fashion with inspiration.
You already know that I LOVE Momentum Jewelry. I've been an ambassador for over 2 years (but I'm not getting paid for this campaign) and love representing their brand! If you haven't gotten your hands on one of their wrap bracelets or foot notes yet - you've gotta check them out! Or...WIN SOME IN THIS CHALLENGE!!!
Her Tribe Athletics is a brand new athletic apparel company owned by 2 awesome women. All of their shirts are really fun (like this "Chasing Tiny Humans is my Cardio" tank") and they are all limited edition - so if you see something you like, get it right away! You can win this "chasing" tank in our challenge!!
So what do you think?
Are you going to join us?
Start this Sunday with our first prompt "Momentum" and show us how
Here we are, August 1st and you all know what that means....FOOTBALL TIME!
As a college football coaching family, our year pretty much revolves around the different "football seasons". There's more than 1 football season, you say? Well, yep. We've got Fall Camp, Actual Season, Post Season Play (hopefully), Recruiting Season, Spring Ball, did I mention recruiting season? Oh yeah that happens all year long.
But we start to get really excited when August rolls around because it's the real deal football time. I love taking the girls to practices and games, and I love seeing the spark of passion that lights up in my coach hubby's eyes when he gets back on the field.
I was reading back on some old blog posts of mine and found one from a few seasons ago that still really rings true to me. It was about supporting my coach through a healthy season. I know not every wife has the time or ability to do this, but I really try to take it upon myself to set my coaching hubby up for success during his season. You might want to check my old post out too - mostly for the funny comics I posted! Is it bad when your own blog posts make you laugh? I digress.
Last year, I have to admit, I didn't do much in terms of helping my husband out. I had a 10 day old baby and a 2 year old at the first game, and I was pretty much happy to just survive last season. But this season we're ready to roll again and I'm excited about some of the things we do to get ourselves and my coach ready for a winning season.
As far as me and the girls go, I make sure to have a pretty set (and fun!) fall schedule. Staying busy keeps us sane, and I'm excited to have a fall filled with Mommy Strong fitness classes, music class, some visitors and lots of fun little day trips. I also like to plan out a few weekly meals so that we don't end up eating cereal for dinner every night! Finally, we have a tradition of making new team shirts for the girls each year before the first game, so that will be a fun activity to do sometime this month!
As far as supporting my coaching husband, I"ve put together some of the things I send him off with for a healthy and successful season. If you have a coach (or any active, busy, hard working person!) some of these things might just make a perfect care package for them too!
Obviously, this initial stash won't last the whole season. I send lunches (and breakfasts and dinners usually) as well as healthy snacks like hard boiled eggs throughout the season too.
The Coach gave me list of stuff he needed for the locker room. I don't ask many questions, I just buy the list!
This makes my heart so happy. My husband Mr. Tough Football Guy was really skeptical of essential oils when I first ordered them. Fast forward to now...he asked for a diffuser in his office, uses oils every day and has been asking me to send samples in for other coaches!
He even had the idea of creating a "Football Season Survival Kit" for coaches with all of his favorite doTERRA products! He has seen how much these products have helped him, and I love that he wants other coaches to experience it too!
A few of the must-haves he told me he needed:

I always like to send something a little personal too - this is one of the books I've given to him in the past to add to his collection at the office. I also like to print a few recent pictures of the girls for his office!

I love connecting with fellow coach's wives...what are your favorite things you do to prepare yourself (or your coach) for football season?
I'm curious...where are you watching football from this year?

I’ve been blessed with two amazing breastfeeding journeys. Besides some killer bites lately (ouch!) I really have nothing to complain about. I realize that this isn’t always the case for everyone, so I applaud each and every one of you who has figured out the best way for YOU to feed your little love bugs. Personally, I love knowing that breastmilk is the near perfect mix of vitamins, fats, protein and nutrients - and it's ridiculously convenient for a stay-at-home mom like myself. I ended up breastfeeding Miss Mak longer than I had expected to (17 months!) and am well on my way to hit the 1 year mark with Little Hallie. Time will tell how long we continue with her!
In both of my pregnancies and while I'm nursing, I try to pay extra attention to what I’m putting in my body. A variety of healthy foods, lots of water and a high quality daily supplement. What goes into my body goes into my girls’ bodies, so that definitely makes me want to make good choices. Plus, it’s important for me to be fueling my body well so I can continue “mommin’” the best I can! But how do we REALLY know if we are providing them all of the nutrients they need? Not everything has glaring signs of deficiency.
When I had an opportunity from EverlyWell to do a DHA test on my breastmilk, I jumped at the chance! I had never heard of breastmilk testing so I was definitely intrigued. First, I had to remind myself of what DHA was. I know I learned about it in College Nutrition 101 but I was still a little shaky on it. So, according to the awesome resources I received from EverlyWell, “DHA is a vital Omega 3 Fatty Acid for a baby’s health as they grow during their first 2 years.DHA is crucial in a child’s early development, in particular for their visual acuity and cognitive development.”
Well cool! I was definitely hoping to hear some positive results. But here’s the thing – it’s estimated that about 75% of American’s are actually deficient in DHA, so I wasn't holding my breath!
So here’s how it all works.
I was worried that I’d have to go into a lab somewhere (which was SO not happening with my 2 little ones in tow), so I was PUMPED (haha see… what I did there?!) to see that I could collect my sample at home, and actually, without even using a pump! I only needed a few drops of my first morning milk (no food or supplements yet) onto a little card. They actually mailed me everything I needed ahead of time, with really easy to follow instructions.
I collected my sample, dropped it on the card, placed it in the the provided bag, put everything back in the box and shipped it off with the free shipping label. All of the shipping was free! Then I just had to wait a week or so to receive my results via email.
Dun da dun….my levels came in at Optimal! I was actually a little surprised considering the statistics, but really overjoyed! I’m so glad my girlie is getting lots of DHA for that little brain to grow!
One thing I LOVE about EverlyWell, is that they are great at empowering you to be even healthier, rather than making you feel bad about less than optimal results. They included ideas of how to increase DHA levels like eating fatty fish, liver, eggs and microalgae. I rarely eat these things except for eggs, so I’m chalking my good levels up to high quality eggs and great DHA supplements!
Another awesome thing about this test is that my results were reviewed by a physician IN MY STATE, and can be easily shared with my own physician. FSA accounts often cover the cost of this as well. There is literally no easier “lab work” I’ve EVER done.
For those of you who are dying to try this – I’d love to share a 15% discount on this test for you! Just enter HFF15 at checkout HERE!
