Happy Monday! I hope y'all had a great weekend. I enjoyed some football watching and playing out at my favorite ranch. Oh, and my washing machine broke. Fun. Today I'm participating in "blog tour". I've never really done anything like this here on Home Field Fitness, but after reading Steph's post over at "I Train Therefore I Eat", I was inspired to keep the chain going and participate as well. I love reading Steph's blog, she's an athletic trainer and has great insight on training, eating and life in general. You can read her "Why I Write" post HERE. The whole concept of this blog tour is to link to 3 people who will continue this on next Monday, so if any of you fellow bloggers are interested, please let me know and I"ll get you the info! The topic is writing - and I think it's a great chance to really think about why I write...and I'm excited to share with all of you as well!
Ok - here it goes!
1) What am I working on?
As far as actual writing goes, I'm not doing anything new and exciting besides my regular blog posts. I am however, making lots of lists (where most of my writing originates from anyways) in regards to future planning for this site. I have a lot of ideas and am trying to reign them in to continue making this site great and helpful to everyone!I'm working on drafts for some future posts, as well as designing some awesome fitness programs to share in the future.
2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?
There are a TON of fitness and food bloggers out there and it can be tough to be different! I guess you all would be the best judge of if I'm doing a good job of being different - but I think in my head, I look at health and fitness as an on-going, big picture thing. I'm not big on crazy diets, insane workouts or otherwise extreme anything. I hope I can portray a healthy lifestyle that's totally doable. I share occasional treat recipes, and I'm the first to tell you if I have been lazy or enjoying too many cupcakes. But I also hope to motivate you to keep traveling down the path to health. It takes little things, day in a day out to truly make a difference. I suppose the other thing that makes me different is my life in the sports world. Being a football wife truly is a different ballgame, and I like to share struggles and tips for other women in similar situations!
3) Why do I write what I do?
Because it's totally what I love. I want to share things I've learned and tried to help others on their journey to be healthier. I've had lots of jobs in different fields but what I always come back to is helping people get stronger, faster, or healthier. It doesn't even feel like work to me. I created Home Field Fitness as a way to share my passions with the rest of the world, and writing fun, educational posts is my way of doing that.
4) How does your writing process work?
I get ideas everywhere. I usually have a rough outline of things I want to post on my blog in advance, but I don't shy away from things that come up and just have to be shared without much planning. I'm not always in the best head-space to write, but I am usually most successful when I sit down at my kitchen table, put on some Sheryl Crow, have a mug of coffee handy along with a plateful of gluten free baked goods. Only then, is my writers brain is really ready to go! My title usually starts out as a general topic and I write some bullet points in the body to build off of. In the end, I usually change the title and may or may not use all of my bullet points. I always read and re-read what I write, it's amazing the little tweaks that can change an entire post. I usually have my husband read my post too. He always says it's good...I may need to find a harsher critic.
Funny, because I thought I post like this would be easy, but it has actually been one of the more challenging posts to write! Sometimes they just roll out of me and other times it takes a lot of working and re-working. Maybe just writing about writing is too much pressure!
Ok everyone, I know life is crazy and we all have a lot going on - but if anyone wants to continue this blog tour on their on blog next Monday (4/21), please let me know! I will update this post with any other participating bloggers. I think it will be fun to see what the rest of you come up with and share!
It's great to see you! I'm Alyssa and I blog about all the things I've found "essential" in my life as a fit mama and football coach's wife. You'll find all kinds of fun stuff here like workouts, oily info, football stories and more!
